Katrina the 'pow(d)er puff girl'

13 Aug 2008 - 158 Views - Shibani

The outfit was as un-Kat as it gets – a sharp pair of trousers and a black jacket, with a smart white shirt.

Corporate dressing is supposed to be strictly character driven in Bollywood, but Katrina Kaif is making it increasingly clear that she has a mind of her own and doesn’t do things the way they’re supposed to be done.

When she visited Delhi recently, we asked Kat if she thought she was looking better too, with that woman-on-top outfit. “I don’t know, ya!” she laughed. “Right now, I’ve been running from pillar to post to talk about Singh is Kinng and I actually feel very tired. But I guess it is optimism! It’s the positivity I feel around me and nothing else.”

So everything’s going her way? “I’m quite happy. I have all my near and dear ones around me and there’s no tension in life,” she answers. No tension... even after that very public Sallu-SRK spat on her birthday? “Actually, most things are very different from what they are made out to be,” says Kat. “A lot of these problems and what-if scenarios are created. The fact is that they don’t even exist. I’m quite a professional in the industry and nobody is acting on his or her whims and fancies here. We are all trying to do the best we can and as I said – I’m quite happy!”

Some of that happiness is coming from the new things Kat is doing on the work front. For one, she’s working with Ranbir Kapoor, an actor closer to her age, in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani .

“Yes, it is a change, because I haven’t worked with an actor who is in my age group and that is going to be a nice experience,” she says. And she’s doing Prakash Jha’s Rajniti, which is quite a departure for the Namastey London girl.

“Even now, I love commercial cinema and the masti of it all, but it’s nice to venture out and do a role that portrays you in a different light,” she says, adding, “And the role has nothing that goes against my nature. It’s a very strong story and I could understand it well. It is important to maintain what one is doing in commercial cinema but a little change is also good. Hence, I’m going in a direction that I haven’t gone in before.”

News is she’s not doing the sequel to Partner ... “That’s not true and I think it is a ridiculous piece of news,” she retorts. “The work on the film hasn’t started and as and when things fall into place, I’ll be a part of the film. Sohail Khan and David Dhawan are still working on the project.”
